More than 200 people took part in a techno music party in a bombed-out building in northern Ukraine on Sunday. North of Kyiv, the landscape is littered with homes destroyed in the Russian invasion. With the Ukrainian government focused on funding the war effort, there is no money to rebuild houses that have been reduced to rubble. Now, self-funded and equipped with shovels and music, hundreds of young volunteers are spending their weekends at so-called clean-up raves. Before the war, Kyiv’s music scene and hipster vibes helped the Ukrainian capital earn the reputation of being “the new Berlin.” But Russia’s invasion has halted the city’s nightlife and put many creative young professionals out of work. Now a group of party-planners have turned their talent’s to hosting “clean-up” raves in Kyiv Oblast, taking volunteers into villages devastated by Russian attacks to help locals clean-up and restore their communities. Without aid from these volunteer groups, government efforts to rebuild homes and clean up communities would likely take years. As Ukrainian civilians clear and clean communities devastated by Russia's war, young people are using dance and music to fill themselves with hope and motivation after they work. A new social event for youth is taking off in the war-damaged country. It's not exactly the club scene but organizers from 'Repair Together' put out the call for loads of young people to show up ready to work, vibe and dance. Ten events have been held so far and the group hopes to go from cleaning up destroyed homes to rebuilding. Crystal Goomansingh attended one of the "clean-up raves" in the Chernihiv region, and speaks with volunteers about what has them raving to rebuild. The daytime "clean-up rave" was organized by young Ukrainians who have been using dance parties as a way to contribute to recovery effort in parts of the country's north which have suffered major damage by Russian bombardment.   "Techno parties, especially rave festivals, it was our lifestyle before when we met with friends and spent time. Last summer every weekend festivals (were) here in Ukraine, in Kyiv. So, we miss it and we want to come back to normal life but our normal life now is volunteering," said one of the group's organisers. Shovels in hand, the volunteers toss piles of debris into the loader of a tractor from the remnants of a village cultural center that was destroyed in March by a rocket strike, while a DJ plays nearby. Ukraine's vibrant club scene was brought to an abrupt halt with the Russian invasion on Feb. 24, and with a night time curfew now in effect in the capital Kyiv, adherents of Ukraine's party culture have sought a way to combine the fun and freedom of a festival with rebuilding the country they love.   Most of the volunteers, primarily in their 20s and 30s, came from Kyiv, about two hours' drive away. But others have come from the western city of Lviv and also nearby Chernihiv, while some foreign volunteers have arrived from Portugal, the United States, Germany and elsewhere. The clean-up at the cultural center in Yahidne was the group's eighth event so far, and they have already helped repair 15 damaged homes in the village.   = Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: info🤍aparchive.com Find out more about AP Archive: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Instagram: 🤍 You can license this story through AP Archive: 🤍

Against the backdrop of a brutal war, thousands of young Ukrainian hippies gathered in the mountains for a giant party: the annual Shypit Festival. Nudity, psychedelics, and dancing around the fire chanting “ Putin” ensued. For many, this was their last chance to party before being conscripted to the front lines. But then the Ukrainian military showed up and began drafting the young revelers. While it may have ruined the party for some, these hippies are mostly keen to fight. In fact, they may be the first hippies in history who WANT to go to war… Watch more from VICE: The Story of 'Unwritten' By Natasha Bedingfield 🤍 The Dark Secret Behind the Royal Family's Wealth 🤍 MS13's Toxic Weed That’s “More Addictive Than Cocaine" 🤍 Click here to subscribe to VICE: 🤍 About VICE: The Definitive Guide To Enlightening Information. Ukrainians in Kyiv clean up after Russian missile strike in heart of capital

Kyiv residents cleaned glass shards from damaged windows on Monday after Russian strikes on Ukraine’s capital. Russia launched its most widespread air strikes since the start of the Ukraine war on Monday, raining cruise missiles on busy cities during rush hour and knocking out power and heat, in what President Vladimir Putin called revenge for a blown up bridge. Missiles tore into busy intersections, parks and tourist sites in the centre of the capital Kyiv. "There was a strong explosion… I heard windows crumbling in this yard,” said Olena Shestakova, 65. She added that the windows in her flat were also damaged. As glass from the shattered windows was laying on the ground in Kyiv's city centre, Mykola, 36, was protecting his dog's paws during a walk. "We are walking him, so he does his things. The important thing is he doesn’t hurt his paw,” Mykola said. He said he came to visit his grandmother before the strike. "We got lucky that the missile went into the ground probably, so there hasn't been a blast wave as strong,” Mykola said. The 2014 revolution brought Kiev nightlife to a complete standstill. As protests turned into riots, and government security forces opened fire on protestors, the country fell into crisis. But out of the ashes of revolution has risen a new generation. Vans Without Borders (VWB) is a British humanitarian group, that delivers essential food and medical supplies to civilians who are left with no choice but to live near the Ukrainian-Russian frontline. The team have been braving countless dangers and driving down bombed-out roads since March 2022. Bringing relief to vulnerable people, recently liberated from Russian occupation and left to starve in the wake of Putin's invasion of Ukraine. Donate to Vans Without Borders: 🤍 Exclusive documentary mini-series by Valerie Browne Watch the whole Life on the Frontline series: 🤍 VWB were one of the first humanitarian groups to visit Bucha and Irpin after the March 2022 massacre. They witnessed the devastation the Russian army had unleashed upon the local population during their occupation. "We saw multiple vehicles riddled with bullets and blood on the backseats, as well as the usual booby traps, landmines and unexploded bombs. It was heart-wrenching to go there." Said Jack Ross, who heads the aid group VWB. "It's devastating, it's something that will stay with me until I die." He added. During a return visit to Bucha in June 2022, the VWB team met Bogdan, 20, and his family. Bogdan's disability proved challenging when the family had to get Bogdan's wheelchair to the safety of the basement, accessible only by ladder, just before their family home was reduced to rubble by shelling that spring. While the family were underground, the house was hit and collapsed on top of them. Like so many others in the area, they were trapped and had to text other people in the area to come and rescue them. "They had to get help from the local community to get Bogdan out because they couldn't lift him out in his wheelchair." Said Jack. Nearly a year after the grim memory of occupation, Bogdan and his family have a shell of a house forming that will soon be fit for purpose with wheelchair ramps and a large garden. Bogdan is a member of the Bucha Children and Adults with Disabilities group, who asked VWB to bring them a speaker so they could resume hosting activities and events for disabled people in the local community. Young People In Ukraine Are Holding Raves To Clean Up Cities Destroyed By The War

Young Ukrainians are holding raves to clean up the destruction left in numerous Ukrainian neighborhoods from months of fighting. The group Repair Together organizes clean ups primarily in Kyiv towns. Videos from TikTok showed young people cleaning and sweeping up the rubble to the sound of a DJ remixing house and techno music. Many of the volunteers are young people between their 20s and 30s who once partied and are unable to attend summer raves due to the war. “I like electronic music and I used to party. But now it’s wartime and we want to help, and we’re doing it with music,” organizer Tania Burianova said, according to AP. Curfew and the threat of Russian bombing has stopped the nightlife in Ukraine since the start of the war on February 24. In Yahidne, a town in northeast of Kyiv, residents said the town, which was once “bright and modern”, became “gloomy” and “emotionless” after Russia took control of the area between March and April. “If people are coming here and helping us to the music, it somehow helps the village to get renewed and revived,” a Yahidne resident said, according to the Washington Post. Repair Together has held at least eight raves in the area and have helped repair 15 damaged homes, the project’s founder, Dmytro Kyrpa, told Resident Advisor. - Follow Almost on Instagram: 🤍 Follow Almost Chinese on Instagram: 🤍 Follow Almost on Facebook: 🤍 Read more on Almost: 🤍 Want more world news? This stream is to show Jan joining the fundraiser for the brave Ukrainians, to provide housing for refugee families with children. He asks for your support by donating to the project. donate here ❯❯❯ 🤍 ❮❮❮ (card, paypal, crypto) Every smallest donation counts! Background: The festival Jan played on Pink Lake in 2021 is now driving the 'HUTIR' humanitarian project. It aims to construct fast-built settlements to provide free and long-term housing for families with children in a safe region of Ukraine. When the war is over the settlements are to be converted into a rehab. Over a hundred thousand families in Ukraine have lost their homes, including some people you see on in the stream. They moved to safer regions, and a lot live in refugee camps and common spaces, with little hope to come back to normal life. Please join Jan in this fundraiser for people of Ukraine.
